Organized in 2006, The Shamar Group a faith-based, non-for-profit organization established as a vital solution to the numerous challenges faced by the communities we serve.
Since our inception over 2,000 families and individuals have benefited from our social supportive services and programs.
We offer programs for personal and professional development and life skills achievement. We empower people, especially the youth, to take charge over their future through behavioral modification, conflict resolution and anger management, effective communication, improved literary and writing abilities, and technological and computer skills.
As a result of our programs, participants become better students, parents, community leaders, and professionals.
In 2017, we hosted the Back to School Outreach at Jensen Scholastic Academy. This is an annual event in which The Shamar Group partners with businesses in the area to provide the necessary resources to make this event a success.
We distributed 425 backpacks filled with donated school supplies to low income school aged children. The community event consisted of music, clowns, carnival games, basketball tournaments, lots of food, and a petting zoo.
The holidays can be a time of stress and strain for families but overwhelmingly so for families who lack the financial resources. To eliminate some of the pressure, our organization created the Annual Holiday Outreach Initiative. During the Thanksgiving Holiday, we provided baskets filled with canned food items, desserts, breads, and a ham or turkey – the ingredients for a traditional meal. Last year 2017, we distributed 50 of these baskets to families in need throughout the community.
We also solicit donations for toys and new coats and accessories for the young children as Christmas gifts. We host a Christmas feast for a time of family, fun, and fellowship. To date, over 500 families and children benefited from the Holiday Outreach Initiative with food, toys, and clothing.
